Alex Barron
Alex Barron was the 2002 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year and posted two victories during his rookie season in the Indy Racing League. Barron began racing in CART in 1998, but did make an IRL start in 2001.
Barron had a lot of success in the American Toyota Atlantic series before moving to CART, as he won that series’ championship in 1997. While in CART, Barron drove for Dan Gurney’s Champ Car team and stayed there until 1999, where before moving to Roger Penske’s team following a tragic accident that caused the death of driver Gonzalo Rodriguez.
